This vase starts with 2 pieces of clear glass, painted with enamels, and fused together to set the enamels to the glass. Phase 1 of this fusing process takes around 24 hours of firing and cooling to complete. Next this painted glass is layered with a piece of blue transparent glass that is cold worked (grinding is done on the edges of the glass to prevent sharp edges), both pieces are layered so all corners are visible. Then both are laid over a stainless steel form and fused again. This process is called a drape. Phase 2 of this drape fusing takes an additional 24 hours to fire and cool down.
